In the Central Portugal you will find a huge variety of nature, history and culture. First there are glacial lakes, spring waters and all kinds of outdoor sports: on land, in the sky or on water. The Serra da Estrela Natural Park is worth a visit because it boasts clear spring waters at the sources of the rivers Zêzere and Mondego. If you're feeling energetic, go to Linhares where you can have a go at paragliding. For natural swimming pools try the Serra da Lousã and the Serra do Açor. And for peaceful footpaths visit the Serra do Caramulo. All of this is in the Central Portugal, where you will also find opportunities for canoeing and rafting, rock-climbing, abseiling and many other adventure sports. And be sure to spend some time on the Atlantic coastline-Silver Coast (Costa de Prata) - where you'll find the peaceful atmosphere of lagoons and rivers. There are long beaches with its high sand dunes, white sand and high waves. The Bairrada wine region, where the sea has influenced the character of Bairrada´s wines. Here you'll discover the Luso and Curia thermal waters and SPAs. On a calm riverbank, on a spot of turbulent waters or in a quite dam, you can catch the trout, the barbel, the bream or the bogue abundant in the Rivers Vouga, Dão, Paiva or Chriz.
Water is also a regional wealth not only as an important natural resource for agriculture and ecological balance but also for its tourist potentialities and mineral properties. In fact, the Dão-Lafões Region supplies one-fourth of the country´s thermal waters. Due to their medicinal and therapeutic qualities, these waters are recommended for skin diseases and disorders of the respiratory tract. Since immemorial times they are sought by monarchs and people to relieve or cure illnesses.
The Region has na excellent location, practically equidistant from the two main urban and administrative centres of Portugal as well as from the sea and the Spanish frontier; Today access is greatly improved and made much easier through the IP5/A25 that connects Aveiro to Vilar Formoso and the IP3 between Chaves and Figueira da Foz.

Central Algarve has been since the 70's the most desirable area in Algarve for holidaymakers and for those who decided to live in this magnificent land. Albufeira, the most known town on this area has become the tourist capital of Algarve. Its golden beaches and pulsating night-life attract people from all over Europe. The new marina has brought a new light into the town and surrounded areas. A few minutes away there is also another pulsating town, Armação de Pera, a coastal fishing town that has one of the longest stretches of beach, which extends all the way down to the coast to Gale, passing for the Salgados bay, where you will find the Natural Park and the Herdade dos Salgados Golf Resort. Around Armação de Pera curves the most beautiful coastline in the Algarve. To the west, the sea has eaten into the soft, creamy limestone, carving it into fascinating shapes; arches and pinnacles raise sheer bout of the translucent sea. East from Albufeira, you will find Vilamoura, one of the most extensive-constructed resorts in Europe with is impressive Marina and five 18-hole championship golf courses and several other sports utilities. Nearby there is the called "Golden Triangle", the exclusive Golf resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Inland, the most important areas are Loulé, Almancil, Alcantarilha, Lagoa and Silves. On these towns landscaping is mostly rolling hills mostly offering breathtaking views. 
 
 

 

Eastern Algarve

The beautiful city of Tavira is situated in the Eastern Algarve, approximately 40 minutes from Faro airport. Tavira is steeped in history having 37 churches, cobble stone walking streets (calcadas), a Roman bridge across the river Gilao and amazing moorish style architecture. The river running through Tavira provides a tranquil setting to sit, relax and contemplate whilst enjoying a drink or having a meal at one of the many cafe/restaurants. 

Tavira has expanded very much in quality over the last decade but has still managed to retain it's original characteristics, making Tavira one of the most unique and beautiful cities in the Algarve. In comparison to destinations further west Tavira  provides a much quieter and relaxed environment.

The Tavira coastline is calm and peaceful, with an expanse of eleven kilometres of inviting fine sandy beaches and warm water. Tavira Island and Praia do Barril are the two most popular beaches but you will not be lost for choice.

The Ria Formosa natural reserve offers pleasant boat trips and the opportunity to experience the wet land flora and fauna, in particular the water birds. It is estimated that the Ria Formosa hosts 30 thousand birds each year, this includes both resident and migratory species.

 


 
Western Algarve

Travelling westward, the Algarve´s landscape undergoes a dramatic change as the Atlantic winds make their presence felt and the shelter provided by the Serra de Monchique falls away toward the coast above Aljezur. The area around the charming town of Vila do Bispo is traditionally known as the breadbasket of the Algarve and up until comparatively recently was famed for its abundance of windmills. The Costa Vicentina Natural Park is an enchanting place with rolling hills, marshland, imposing cliffs, rocky coves and broad beaches. Lagos, who in the 16th century the capital of Algarve breaths history along in is walls, the largest and best-preserved in Algarve. The exceptional marina is followed by the magnificent Meia Praia, a fantastic stretch of white sandy beach. Other interesting points in western Algarve are Alvor, a small typical fishing village and Portimão where you will find the amazing Praia da Rocha.
